Physician-to-Physician Initiative to Deter Health Care Fraud
Dr. David Morrow to Speak to Cedar Sinai Medical Center Hospitalist Group about
Health Care Fraud and the Consequences of Medical Billing Fraud
David Morrow, MD has been invited to address one of the largest Hospitalist* Medical Groups at Cedars Sinai Medical Center** in Los Angeles, California, Thursday, March 2, 2017. Dr. Morrow presentation will initiate a new direct peer-to-peer fraud deterrence advocacy program. On Thursday, Dr. Morrow will meet with 25 hospitalist physicians who all practice at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, along with some of the social workers and pharmacists with whom they work, for a candid dialogue regarding the perils of health care fraud, especially as it relates to medical record documentation and insurance billing.
Dr. Morrow’s presentation will incorporate information about appropriate medical record documentation and insurance billing, emphasizing the expectation of strict adherence to regulations and the very serious consequences of violating those standards. In part, Dr. Morrow’s goal will be to help physicians understand that even seemingly “trivial” or “minor” omissions, modifications, exaggerations or any other nonfactual representation of a clinical situation is in fact a criminal act.
The most poignant aspect of this peer-to-peer dialogue will be hearing directly from Dr. Morrow, a once well respected and admired specialist, regarding his own violation of the law and the devastating professional and personal consequences of his criminal actions. Dr. Morrow’s mission is to create a deterrent by changing the perspective individual physicians hold about fraud from the abstract and theoretical consequences to the real and tangible.
Dr. Morrow’s presentation to this prestigious Hospitalist group is an important part of the physician-to-physician fraud deterrence advocacy he has taken upon himself. In the coming weeks and months, Dr. Morrow hopes to dialogue with many individual physicians, medical groups and hospital medical staffs, throughout Southern California to create deterrence of witting and unwitting medical billing fraud through peer-to-peer discourse and education.
